I believe, like many others over the centuries before us, that the pathway of healing and growth can be illuminated by exploring our astrological placements.

Chiron

Our wound, our strength, our purpose

A Centaur, a Key, a Comet

The symbolism of Mythology and actuality of Astrology is a two sided coin. Before I outline a Chiron Reading and how it can help us let’s discover the mythological tale of Chiron ‘the Immortal Centaur’, a tale of tragic irony and kindness.

Chiron was a great teacher and oracle with the ability to heal all those around him. Well known for his fondness of humanity and the kindness in which he treated them, he shared his vast knowledge of music and medicine and was noted for his bravery. Chiron was respectfully admired by humanity and Gods alike . The ability to see balance in ourselves and the duality of our primal instinct and our reasoning is symbolised by Chiron.

The example of irony is told by Chiron being accidentally struck by a poison arrow, an arrow which had been dipped in the blood of a God. As Chiron was injured he felt an immediate and agonising pain emitting from the arrow wound and retreated to his cave. Day in and day out Chiron applied his knowledge of medicine and healing powers to himself but despite being able to heal others he was unable to heal his wound. The never-ending torment became unbearable and being an immortal Chiron begged the God Zeus to release him from his life of agony.

Zeus, aghast at seeing such a ’just and noble’ Centaur suffering, agreed to release Chiron from immortality and subsequently placed him in the night sky. It is here Chiron became a comet, Centaurus, circling the Sun finally healed from his wound having spent countless lifetimes healing others.

Chiron and Us

In Astrology Chiron is a Glyph symbolised by a ‘key’. A key, when used to discover our Chiron placements unlocks our strengths, allowing us to recognise and assert our truly positive attributes and giving us courage to ‘heal our wound’. He moves between restrictive Saturn and rebellious Uranus always striving for balance within oppositions of duality, and creating a bridge between our wound and healing.

Lucky for us Chiron wants to show us not only where we can heal our ‘wound’ but also where we have wonderful attributes to support our healing. His bravery and kindness want to mirror our own qualities.

Everything in this lifetime can be overcome, Chiron does not want us to retreat to the cave. He ultimately entered the sky so we could see our own beauty, bravery and strength.

A Chiron Reading

In your birth chart, Chiron appears under an astrological sign and potentially a house. As the comet Centaurus he erratically orbits through signs, some for nearly 8 years and others he speeds through in as little as 18 months. You may have Chiron in Pisces, the eternal spiritual student who would benefit from counselling others, perhaps he appears in your third house where you doubt your abilities, fearing to try something new.

We all realise at some point in our lives that others can support us and encourage us to grow and change but if we truly wish to heal and move forward we must decide to heal ourselves.

A reading exploring the transits of Chiron can help us acknowledge our wound, release it and affirm our strengths to live the life we want.
